The Roane County Commission and the County Environmental Review Board are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work addressing the issue of invasive aquatic weeds.

The action follows a Feb. 6 informational workshop for Commission and the public. The workshop attracted several hundred property owners, fishermen and others interested in how the county will deal with the weeds.

Commission Chairman Ron Berry said Monday that he will be putting together an ad hoc weed study committee later this month.

“We will be up and running on the 20th,” he said.

The weed committee will include Commission members with a range of views on the subject, Berry said.

The Environmental Review Board met in a workshop Monday to draft guidelines for a

plan of action that they will present to County Executive Ron Woody.
