WBLA will once again participate in the annual River Rescue this year. Stay tuned for details and read the story below for more information.

Ijams Nature Center’s 27th annual River Rescue on Saturday, April 2, 2016, was a huge success: Ijams staff and volunteers collected 12.5 tons of trash from Knoxville’s waterways! Thanks to everyone who helped.

Now we’re gearing up for the 28th annual event, to be held on April 1, 2017. We hope you’ll join us.

This fun, community-wide event focuses on 50 different cleanup sites along the Tennessee River and its associated creek tributaries. Each year, about 1,000 volunteers spend several hours removing tons of trash from these areas. Volunteers may come as individuals or in a group, such as families, friends, corporate teams, scout troops or church groups. Bags and gloves are provided and each location has a “site captain” to assist volunteers.
